Halloween 2013

I knew wanted her to be something rad this year but I also wanted to give her the option to be what she wanted. I originally wanted her to be Katy Perry. She looooves the song "Roar" because of the animals + watches the video on repeat + sings along to it. Adorable let me tell you. I had the whole concept mapped out but the husband didn't like it. One, because he thinks making a costume is cheap, not unique + two, because she's not exactly appropriate for a 2 yr old. Ok fine. Dang.

After multiple trips to Target + Wally World the past month, slowing crusing the isles + giving her tons of suggestions, the sky was the limit, she was not impressed by any of it. The Spirit Halloween store scared the crap out of her + almost shut the holiday down for her completely until she saw a My Little Pony emblem + said she wanted to be a pony.

Ok now we're getting somewhere but no pony anywhere in sight. We book it to Target + find a unicorn costume for toddlers. Great! Done! No. Well, me never being saitisfied, it was cute but lacked the pizazz + glitz I had in mind. I thought of all the ladies in history and think of one I absolutely love. I look through my hoarded craft supplies, I'm a nerd I know, + actually had most of what I needed to make it happen. Cleopatra.

I just needed more gold fabric which I bought at Hobby Lobby. I find the weekly coupon, remember I'm a nerd, and got an extra yard for a $2.50. But before that I browsed the fabric clearance section + scored a yard of the cream cotton for $2.50 + a yard of the exact gold fabric for $1.99. It was meant to be what are the chances? I bought 4 tan felt squares for a $1. No joke less than $10.

On Wednesday, the day before Halloween!!!! I started working on it during her nap + ended up not using more than 1/2 of what I premade during that time because I was winging it + didn't really have a plan to execute so there were a couple hiccups but I kept going. She wasn't fond of the wig but I bribed her, judge me. It was a labor of love and turned out great especially since the weather was warm that day.

She went to the library for her weekly toddler story time + since it landed on Halloween there was a tiny parade through the rest of the building. She loved it but once she was home, the costume came off. It was chilly that night so the unicorn costume came in handy for her first door to door trick or treating venture around the block. I kept it just in case she refused the homemade one plus it was too late to return it anyhow. Sound excessive? Well she's the first + only child so while I have the time + patience I want to show her the best time before another comes around + ruins her life. We just like to make her feel special.
