Christmas 2012
After this year with moving and adjusting, it was so nice to start the end of the year making her so happy. She couldn't believe all of the presents had her name on it and were all hers. She woke up at 7 am and took forever to open every present, getting every piece of tape off and lining all her new toys up. After relaxing and playing for a bit we went to Maama's to open the presents my parents bought for her. My mom made tamales + my dad grilled steaks. It was a very different day from what we were used to but really cool to be together.
Grilling in December
We started a new tradition this past Christmas weekend. Grilling! It was so odd and almost surreal to be outside and grilling in December. It's been cold and snowy back home in KC, which is almost always the regular around this time. It's very strange to think she will be so accustom to this weather on Christmas. We spent Christmas in SF a few years ago and while it was beautiful, I never thought that one day I be living in a place with no snow on the holidays. It just occurred to me she will grow up in Texas, not the Midwest. I loved being from the middle of America and it seemed so original to me instead of being embarrassed by it or dying to get out of there and move to a coast. I always thought it was cool to have grounded roots with all four seasons. Happy and blessed to live in the great state, but I do hope she'll be able to experience a white snowy Christmas one day. Until then, we'll enjoy Christmas lights on palm trees.
